Our Story
Origins
Eza Watches originates from Pforzheim, a small watchmaking town in Germany often referred to as the “Gateway to the Black Forest” due to its location in the southwest of the country. The town is best known for its rich history in the jewelry and watchmaking industries, which date back more than 250 years - earning it the nickname “Goldstadt” (Gold City).
Today, traces of this once-thriving industry can still be found in Pforzheim. The town remains home to a watchmaking school and a technical museum showcasing numerous artifacts and machines from its horological past.
Watches bearing the name Eza were originally built in Pforzheim by local manufacturers. One of the most prominent among them was Hermann Becker, whose factory produced the movements found in many vintage Eza watches.
The Brand
The name Eza means “One who is always eager to help.” Thanks to the natural movements of your wrist throughout the day, the watch charges itself - and in return, it helps you by keeping perfect time.
Throughout the 20th century, numerous Eza watches were produced - from elegant dress watches to bold, functional dive watches and even some distinctly vintage, characterful designs. Most of them housed the reliable HB 313 automatic movement or other mechanical calibers.
All Eza watches built during this era were mechanical - high-quality, durable, and reasonably priced, making them accessible to many. However, during the Quartz Crisis, production came to a halt, and the brand ceased operations.
Hermann Becker
Hermann Becker was born on August 4th, 1897. In 1921, he founded his own company, Hermann Becker GmbH, which specialized in producing watch cases, dials, and components for mechanical movements (ébauches).
After Becker’s death in a car accident in 1951, his widow took over the company’s management. In 1958, the first in-house manufacture movement was introduced. Over the years, the factory went on to produce several calibers, including:
● Caliber 312 and 313
● Caliber 80
● Caliber 106
● Caliber 115
● Calibers 110, 111, and 114 (calendar models)
Many components of Eza watches - particularly the mechanical movements - were produced in Becker’s factory. Unfortunately, in 1979, the company ceased operations. At that time, 48 people were employed there.
The Return
Today, after decades of silence, Eza continues Becker’s philosophy. Still mechanical. Still rooted in tradition. Now assembled in Switzerland, where precision and craftsmanship set the global standard, Eza remains faithful to the idea that a true watch is more than an accessory - it is a tool, a companion, and a bridge between heritage and modernity.
EZA Today
Eza is part of a new chapter in independent watchmaking - a brand that is not about mass production or fleeting trends. It’s a brand where each watch is a tribute to Hermann Becker’s belief that fine watchmaking should not be reserved for the few, but built to serve those who value authenticity and precision. Eza represents a choice: to wear something rare, crafted outside the system, yet faithful to watchmaking tradition.
